Activities & Events

As mentioned elsewhere, the Charity offers members and residents the opportunity to participate in a whole programme of excursions, events and holidays, completely free – in fact on many of the excursions the Charity gives each person £20 to cover the cost of refreshments! Over the course of a typical year, there may be three or four theatre matinees to see popular shows; days out at the seaside, with Hastings, Broadstairs, Southend and Margate all popular destinations; a river trip either up or down the Thames – we have visited Hampton Court, Kew Gardens and Greenwich in recent years; Afternoon Teas, where friends can meet over a cup of tea and some cake; a Christmas Lunch; and of course the annual holiday.

We offer up to 100 places at a holiday destination specifically catering for the needs of older people; in previous years we have visited the Warner Leisure hotel at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, and the Sinah Warren hotel complex on Hayling Island. Members enjoy a 5 day (4 nights) stay, arriving on Monday and departing Friday. Coach travel to and from the hotel is provided. The Charity books the hotel many months in advance and tries to book as many single rooms as possible, but sometimes it becomes necessary for people to share twin rooms; double rooms are available for couples.

At the beginning of the year the Charity writes to all the members with a list of the excursions and events. Members then complete the form by ticking their choices and returning it to us so we can plan properly. For some excursions numbers are limited, and so we try to be as equitable as possible in ensuring that no-one is left out.
