Operations Manager

Southwark Charities is about to embark on a once-in-a-century development, namely the rebuilding of both sets of almshouses, over the next 8 years.

Currently there are 66 flats in the two buildings, and this will rise to over 140, with 62 on the Blackfriars site and 80+ at Surrey Square. All will be large (55sqm) flats suitable for those with limited mobility and built to a very high standard. Energy efficiency, sustainability and exemplary design are our guiding principles.

The Chief Executive has spent most of the past nine years steering the charity through the challenges of creating a workable plan for the buildings and identifying a suitable partner to work with us to realise our ambitions. Following a formal planning application in November 2020, the planning committee granted consent in September 2021; negotiations with a reputable and experienced funding/development partner are nearing a satisfactory conclusion, and the construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2022.

It is intended that the Chief Executive will monitor the construction process on behalf of the charity, like a Clerk to the Works. To support him in this role, the charity wishes to recruit an Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of the charity as currently defined.
